YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey team snapped a four-game skid with a 2-0 victory at home on Tuesday against DeSales University. With the win the Spartans improve to 6-6, while the visiting Bulldogs fall to 4-5.
Freshman forward Leah Hunsinger put the Green and White on the board late in the first half after she received a long pass from Sandee Reich which sprung Hunsinger into scoring position. Hunsinger registered her second career goal while Reich tallied her 24th point of the season on the play.
On a York penalty corner midway through the second half the Spartans tallied another score courtesy of sophomore forward Madi Wilt. Kailey Brewer and Colleen O'Rourke are credited with assists on the play as Wilt moves into second on the team with six goals on the year.
Winning goalkeeper Lydia Pirie picks up her second shutout of the season as she improves her record to 2-2 and her goals-against average to 1.20 for the season. Bulldog goalkeeper Victoria DelToro falls to 4-5, but managed to tally seven saves in the loss.
The Spartans dominated the shot column with a margin of 21-0 and maintained a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Green and White will return to action on Friday as they travel to face Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson. The game will be held under the lights at 7:00 pm at Mustang Stadium.
