York Gets Back On Track Against Susquehanna
Shots (on goal)
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The York College field hockey team got back to their winning ways Tuesday evening after the Spartans picked up a decisive 5-1 victory on the road against Susquehanna University. With the win York improves to 5-2 while the host Crusaders fall to 2-4.
The Green and White went to work right away as Kailey Brewer notched the first score of the game less than two minutes into the contest. Later in the first half, Brewer fed a pass to Jillian Brezgel who finished the play and put the Spartans out to an early 2-0 lead.
After the Crusaders tallied a goal of their own to cut the lead to one, junior forward Sandee Reich quickly retaliated with a pair of unassisted goals to finish out the first half and extend the York lead to three. Reich now has nine goals and 21 points on the season. Both totals are good for second in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Midway through the second half, freshman midfielder Katie Petrillo scored her first goal of the season following a York penalty corner. Assisting on the play was Reich who picks up her third assist for 2011.
Making her fifth start in the cage for the Green and White, sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Curtis picks up her fourth win of the 2011 campaign. Curtis tallied three saves in the contest and her 1.09 goals against average ranks second in the conference.
For the game, the Spartans held the upper hand in the shot column with a margin of 17-5, while the Crusaders pulled even with York in penalty corners 10-10.
The Green and White will complete the final leg of their three game road trip as they travel just over the border to face the Green Terror of McDaniel College on Thursday night. The contest will be held under the lights at 7:00 pm.
