YORK, Pa - The York College field hockey team picks up their first road win in 2011 as they defeat Albright College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Spartans tally their second straight win and improves to 2-1 while the Lions fall to 0-4 on the year.
After racking up a total of 14 shots in the first half of play the Green and White failed to find the back of the cage, but they were definitely knocking on the door.
Just over seven minutes into the second half the relentless Spartan attack broke through to pay dirt. Freshman Liz Maue picks up her second goal of the season after she poked in a pass from freshman teammate Leah Hunsinger.
Following a York penalty corner in the 66th minute of play the Spartans added another goal just for good measure. Senior captain Brittany Simmons delivers for her team after receiving an assist from fellow captain Colleen O'Rourke.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Curtis made her first collegiate start for the Green and White and registers her first career win for the squad. Curtis day became complete as recorded her first career shutout and a save as she improves to 1-0 on the season.
York owned the shot margin as the Spartans racked up 24 shots to Albright's one. The Green and White also dominated the penalty corners with a final margin of 21-4.
The Spartan field hockey team returns to action as they face the Gophers of Goucher College under the lights in Towson. Game time is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
