Rowan Edges York in 10 Innings

YORK, PA – The York College baseball squad opened their final eight-game stretch of the regular season with a 7-6 ten inning loss to Rowan University on Monday afternoon in York.

The Profs improve to 25-10 overall while the Spartans fall to 19-18.

The Spartans jumped on top early as the Green and White struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Drew Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) drilled a two-run double to right and then came around to score on a Colin Porter (Hanover, Pa./South Western) single up the middle.

The Profs cut into the Spartan lead in the third with a pair of runs. Rowan then took a 5-3 lead with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth.

Rowan pushed the lead to 6-3 with a single run in the seventh.

The Spartans tied the game with an exciting bottom of the eighth inning. The Green and White loaded the bases before a double play ground ball scored York's fourth run of the game. Dustin Worthman (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) drew a walk to put Spartans at the corners. Colbe Herr (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) stroked a single to center to score York's fifth run. Senior Justin Cohen (Severn, Md./Old Mill) singled to right to score Worthman with the game-tying run.

The Profs got a single and a stolen base in the top of the ninth but Mike Sarecky (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) got out of the inning without any damage. The Spartans got the winning run to third in the ninth but Rowan's Christian Rahman got a pop up to short to end the inning.

In the top of the tenth, Rowan got a pair of one-out singles to put runners at the corners with one out. Eric Sellitto scored the winning run with a fielder's choice as the Spartans got the force play at second but were unable to turn the double play to end the inning.

Worthman led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right. Rowan's Brian Sietsma entered the game and induced Herr into a 4-3 double play. Cohen belted a double down the left field line but Sietsma got the final out of the game to preserve the Prof win.

Rahman was the sixth Rowan pitcher to pitch in the game as he earned the win. Rahman went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit as he improves to 2-0 for the campaign. Sietsma earned his first save as he tossed the 10th inning, allowing Cohen's two-out double. Corey Feigenbaum started for the Profs and went five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Sarecky suffered the loss as he tossed two innings, allowing a run on three hits with a walk. He falls to 3-2 with the setback. Zach Philippi (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) got the start for York and went 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with a strikeout and a walk.

Sean Kelly, Casey Grimes, and Eric Perez each had three hits in the 15-hit Rowan attack. Grimes added two RBI while Kelly had an RBI and a run scored. Sellitto went 1-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.

Worthman banged out three hits and scored twice for York as he is now just three hits short of 200 for his career. Cohen and junior catcher Russ Patti (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) also collected three hits for the Spartans. Herr and Jimmy King (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added two hits for the Spartans.

The Spartans stranded 14 runners in the loss while Rowan left ten runners on base.

York returns to action on Tuesday when they host Montclair State University in a non-conference contest. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
