Spartans Snap Three-Game Losing Streak
GRANTHAM, Pa. – The York College baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-3 non-conference victory at Messiah on Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Thanks to two big hits and three walks, Messiah ended the inning up by three.
The Green and White struggled to get things going in the beginning of the game. In the fourth inning, they got the bats going. York scored four runs in the top of the fourth. Colbe Herr (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) started things off with a home run to left field. After a second pitching change in the inning, Derek Pitzer (York, Pa./Dallastown) recorded a three run home run. The Spartans finished the inning with the lead, which they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
The Spartans added to their lead with one run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Messiah had no answer in the seventh. The Spartans continued to push their lead in the eighth inning, going up 8-3. Hits from Drew Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Porter helped Andrew Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and Herr reach home.
The Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth off a single ripped to right field. Despite the later runs, the Falcons could not overcome their deficit and the Spartans would hold strong in the ninth inning for the win.
