Spartans Earn Split at Wesley
DOVER, DEL – The York College baseball team split their Capital Athletic Conference twin bill at Wesley College on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans won the opener 2-0 before the Wolverines forged the split with a 13-1 victory in the nightcap.
The Spartans are now 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the CAC while the Wolverines are now 10-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The story for the Spartans in the opener was the strong performance of starter Andy Rosenzweig as he twirled six shutout innings en route to picking up his second win of the year. The senior starter allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three. Junior Brandon Ullom earned the save as he allowed one hit in the seventh to preserve the shutout victory.
The Spartans got Rosenzweig the only run he needed in the third. Sean McCann started the inning with an infield single. He advanced to third on an outfield error by rightfielder Bryan Reshetar as the Spartans had runners at second and third with no outs. After a lineout, Justin Cohen lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring McCann with the game's first run.
York got an insurance run in the seventh as senior Rob Klinck blasted a solo homer to right to give the Green and White a 2-0 lead.
Ullom allowed a two out single but got a ground out to end the game and snap the Spartans' seven game skid.
Wolverine starter DJ Keckler matched Rosenzweig as he tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, one earned on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. He falls to 1-1 with the loss.
Klinck was 1-for-3 with his first home run of the year while Steve Tretter and McCann had the Spartans' other hits.
Jon Carlson led the Wolverine offense, as he was 2-for-4.
In game two, the Wolverines jumped on Spartan starter Joey Couch for five runs in the second inning. Wesley got the five runs on just three hits with a pair of errors and three walks.
Wesley added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and then put the contest out of reach with a six-run sixth. Again, the Spartan pitching staff aided in the uprising with four walks and a hit batter during the frame. Overall, the five Spartan pitchers combined to walk 10 batters in the six innings of work.
The Spartans were getting no-hit until the seventh inning when freshman Colbe Herr got his first collegiate hit in his first at-bat with a one-out single in the final frame. Freshman Dan Dennison got his first collegiate hit as a pinch hitter, putting Spartans at first and second with one out. Freshman Pete Greenland then singled home Herr with the Spartans' only run as the avoided the shutout.
Ryan Doran went the distance for the Wolverines as he allowed a run on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Doran improves to 4-0 with the win. Couch absorbed the loss as he falls to 0-3. Couch allowed five runs on three hits and three walks in his 1.1 innings of work. All five Spartan pitchers walked at least one hitter and all five allowed at least one run.

Herr, Dennison, and Greenland had the three Spartan hits.
