Welsh Named Spartan Athlete of the Week for January 21, 2013
YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that men’s track & field runner Sean Welsh has been named the York College Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 20, 2013.
Welsh, a sophomore from Baltimore, Maryland and Parkville High School, had a fantastic meet at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland on Saturday.
Welsh began his day by breaking the school record in the 60-meter dash as he ripped off a time of 7.10, breaking the previous record of 7.14. The record-breaking time earned Welsh a sixth-place finish in the loaded Division I meet.
Welsh also had a strong showing in the 200-meter dash as he placed 14th with a time of 23.59.
Head coach Erick Camodeca believes that Welsh is getting ready to explode for the Spartans.
“Sean had a great day Saturday,” stated Camodeca. “His starts were almost flawless and he did a fantastic job of holding his drive phase during the day. He has the chance to make a significant impact for us.”
Welsh is a business management major and is the son of Michael and Eileen Welsh.
