YORK, Pa. – York College is proud to announce that senior men’s soccer goalkeeper Jesse Derksen (York, Pa./Susquehannock) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 30, 2012.
Derksen helped the Spartans to a 2-1 record for the week, as well as being named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 23. Derksen played a total of 281:28 in the past three games while allowing only two goals and making 13 saves. The Green and White faced two ranked and extremely talented teams this week in Messiah and Salisbury. The Spartans were able to cruise past Neumann this past Monday 3-0. At Messiah Derksen made some terrific saves to keep the Spartans in the game against a top ranked powerhouse, but would not be able to hold the Falcons off in double overtime and lost 1-0. Thanks to a tremendous save on a penalty shot by Derksen in overtime against Salisbury the Spartans were able to beat their CAC rival 2-1 in a thriller on Saturday.
Derksen is a behavioral science major and is the son of Jeffery and Alejandra Derksen.
