YORK, PA - York College is proud to announce that Spartan women’s soccer player Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on August 8.
Glessner led the Spartans to a pair of wins in three games for the week including her first shutout of the season.
In the Spartans’ home opener on Wednesday, Glessner notched four saves with one goal against in the Green and White’s 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown.
She followed that with a 1-0 shutout with three saves as the Spartans earned their second straight win. Glessner closed out the week with a 1-0 loss against a talented University of Scranton squad. Glessner recorded four saves in the tight loss against the Royals.
For the week, Glessner notched 11 saves with two goals against. Her goals against average was 0.67 for the week while her save percentage was .818.
Glessner, the defending NCAA statistical champion in save percentage, owns a save percentage of .800 and a goals against average of 0.74 for the season.
Glessner, a national Academic All-America last year, is a sociology and criminal justice major while she is a mathematics minor. She is the daughter of William Glessner and Gaynor Robben.
